The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) is a collaborative initiative aimed at addressing energy poverty and accelerating the transition to renewable energy in developing and emerging economies. Formed by The Rockefeller Foundation, the IKEA Foundation, and the Bezos Earth Fund, GEAPP brings together a diverse group of partners, including governments, development banks, and private sector entities.
GEAPP focuses on three catalytic themes—distributed renewable energy (DRE), green grids, and green economy. DRE emphasizes decentralized renewable energy solutions like microgrids and solar home systems; green grids focus on enhancing grid capacity and resilience to integrate renewable energy; and green economy leverages clean energy to drive economic growth and create job opportunities.
It provides targeted support to seven foundation countries: the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Nigeria, South Africa, and Viet Nam. These countries have been selected based on their significant potential for impact and their strong governmental commitments to advancing clean energy initiative. Beyond these seven foundation countries, GEAPP also works on replicable and scalable solutions in an additional 13 countries, aiming to extend the benefits of clean energy to a broader range of regions. Overall, GEAPP’s initiatives reach over 80 countries, demonstrating its commitment to creating a sustainable and equitable energy future on a global scale.
