The International Financing Facility for Education (IFFEd) is a financing mechanism addressing the global education crisis, particularly in lower-middle-income-countries (LMICs). It leverages donor contributions to unlock additional funding from multilateral development banks (MDBs) and private investors, multiplying the impact of donor dollars. This approach enables critical investments in education and skills development, addressing significant financing gaps, and ensuring access to quality education and lifelong learning opportunities.
On 1 July 2023, IFFEd became an independent nonprofit foundation based in Geneva, Switzerland. It collaborates with governments, nongovernment organizations, philanthropic partners, and MDBs to scale up more affordable financing for education in LMICs. IFFEd has committed $1.5 billion for projects to develop global education and skills, starting in Asia and the Pacific with ADB as its founding MDB partner. IFFEd will fund its first projects in 2025.
