
Boosting Small Businesses and the Blue Economy
ADB, Austria, Canada, and Japan are providing the Bank of Maldives with a financing package for the recovery of small businesses and investments in sustainable blue economy projects.
The Canadian Climate Fund for the Private Sector in Asia II, or CFPS II, is designed to support greater private sector participation in climate change mitigation and adaptation in low- and lower-middle-income countries and upper-middle-income small island developing states in Asia and the Pacific. It aims to play a key role in helping the private sector overcome development risks (including market, technology, financing, regulatory, and other risks) by offering to finance concessional terms and conditions to projects that proceed solely commercially. The fund seeks to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in its projects.

In 2024, ADB and Bogd Bank signed a $15 million loan to provide financing for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Mongolia, with a strong focus on women-led MSMEs and green finance, and the CFPS II component supporting the purchase of energy-efficient equipment and small-scale renewable energy systems.

The Monsoon Wind Power Company is building a wind power plant in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic. ADB, multilateral organizations, and private sector partners are cofinancing what is poised to become the largest wind power facility in Southeast Asia.
Through an ADB-supported private investment project, cofinanced with the Canadian Climate Fund for the Private Sector in Asia II, Nepal moves closer to achieving energy security. After project completion, Nepal will see a new hydropower plant generate electricity for its national grid, helping lessen the country’s dependence on energy imports and lifting the quality of the lives of the surrounding communities.
